How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on My Dream Mattress starts with one question: will this product fit the person, bed and room? For a mattress, that means sleep position, preferred feel, support needs, available space and budget.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the person and the bed

A thick topper can make a low bed harder to get into. A frame with the wrong dimensions will not support your mattress properly.

We check mattress and frame sizes, height, firmness, materials, weight limits and setup needs. For sheets, pillows and bedding, we look at fit, fabric or fill, warmth and care instructions.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details makers list: mattress construction, foam types, thickness, firmness descriptions, cooling features, dimensions, included parts and warranty terms.

Makers describe comfort in their own words, so we name the brand for each claim. We also check return windows and setup requirements when those details are available.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like mattresses that soften early, toppers that slide, frames that feel unstable, sheets that shrink or pillows that lose shape.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A firm mattress may suit one reader and feel wrong to someone seeking a softer surface.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Similar models can have different materials, sizes or included parts, so we check the model name and listing details, and link only to new products.

We skip unclear listings and products with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are based on research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

We don't give medical advice. If pain or a health condition affects your sleep, ask a qualified health professional for guidance about your needs.
